It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! But for many of us, Christmas looks a lot like panic-buying a bunch of last-minute gifts online for people who deserve much better. Our mothers do not want eucalyptus-scented aromatherapy nasal inhalers, and our fathers probably don’t actually have a whole lot of interest in that 10-piece hot sauce tester set. Sure, Etsy has saved us more times than one, but it’s never worth the stress of waiting, wondering if that order will actually arrive by December 25th! This year, stop the vicious cycle of last-minute panic purchases! Obion County, Tennessee, has great shopping opportunities to help you check off every loved one on your list and give them the gifts they really deserve. Here’s our ultimate guide to holiday shopping for everyone on your nice list:
Union City is a charming town with a quaint downtown area, a variety of good eats, and some seriously great shopping, but one of our most famous (and favorite!) features has to be the “Let it Glow” Lights Show. Families come from miles around to drive through the 30+ miles of over one million spectacular Christmas lights. It’s great for kids, it’s only $10, it’s socially distanced, and—most importantly—it boasts a waterfall made of stunning blue Christmas lights. Be sure to stop by the Obion County Chamber Office to kick off your happy, healthy trip with a free Obion County mask and more resources on fun opportunities.

The Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope is an organization that helps cancer patients in Obion County currently undergoing treatment. After visiting the office and talking with Lorraine Gossett, I grew a deeper understanding of just how amazing the walk of hope is and how much it does for the community.

What better way to start your morning than with the lovely ladies at Trudy’s Kids Cafe in downtown Union City!
Trudy’s Kids Cafe is an organization that believes no child in Obion County should ever be hungry. Trudy’s serves free meals to children up to the age of 18 Monday through Friday. One thing that stood out to me is that they are able to serve breakfast, lunch, AND dinner to children. The employees deliver meals all across the county for kids to pick up as well as have a full cafe that welcomes you to eat, work on homework, use the computers in the cafe, and feel the love poured into the community each and every day. The hard work and passion present is noticed and appreciated all across the county.

Today I met with Carolina Conner, Interim Director at the Obion County Public Library. Carolina has been at the library since 2011 and after meeting her and taking a tour, I can tell she has a true passion for what she does. When most people think of a library, they think of checking books in and out and that's as far as the mind goes. However, the Obion County Library is so much more. From the park in the back that features an amphitheater and book walk to the largest selection of Ellison Dies I have ever seen, I soon realized how much the library has to offer to community members.
