When I first entered the store, a family stood at the counter trying to place an order for flowers that would best honor their mother and grandmother. The family began overwhelmed, but I watched as Tassie Smith, owner of Flowers with Sass, carefully walked them through the steps of choosing the perfect arrangements. Tassie was thoughtful in all the details – highlighting the colors and flowers their mother loved best, while taking note of any flowers that she would not have enjoyed. This kindness allowed a grieving family to view these blooms as a symbol of celebration, rather than a symbol of mourning.

“From where you are, to where you need to be.”
This quote lines the front of The Bridge’s annual ministry report from the past year. In 2012, Julie Huggins decided that she wanted to see change in the Obion County area. Every day, she saw single mothers around her struggling to balance their responsibilities, and often getting consumed by all of the baggage that they had to carry. Most of the women in this demographic carry the weight of unsafe relationships, bad family situations, poverty level wages, and insurmountable debt as a result. She knew that these women needed someone on their team, so she decided to build one – The Bridge.

I had the privilege of visiting the Promethean Foundation and speaking with the wonderful people who make everything happen! The very first thing I noticed as we began talking was that they have a strong passion for what they do. This foundation has a group of people behind it that care deeply about quality education for all children in Obion County.

Today I was able to visit the beautiful Reelfoot Lake, nestled in northwest Tennessee. With a rich history and tradition, lake draws tourists every year to experience hunting, fishing, festivals, and eagle spotting. To get the full lake experience, my friends from Reelfoot Lake Tourism Council and Reelfoot Lake State Park took me on an eagle tour around the lake! You are almost guaranteed to spot a number of beautiful birds when exploring the area (We saw 27 on our tour!).
