Fire Protection
There are eight municipalities with fire departments in Obion County. City residents pay taxes to support those departments.
Since there is no Obion County Fire Department, the eight municipal fire departments provide fire protection outside of their city limits. Residents outside of those cities do not pay city taxes, and don’t contribute to fire department budgets, so the departments charge an annual subscription fee to rural property owners. Departments will respond to all fires in their rural districts, but non-subscribers are billed a high fee per response.
Each city can provide information regarding their department’s response policies and fee schedules. If you don’t know what department serves your rural property, contact the Obion County Emergency Communications District (911) on their business line, 731.885.3316.
