USDA Helps Rural Obion County Respond to Emergencies More EfficientlyHORNBEAK, Tenn. - USDA Rural Development Area Director Joel Howard joined Hornbeak Mayor Dennis Dozier today in announcing USDA RD Community Facilities (CF) grants totaling $45,190 and a $100,000 CF loan that will be used to build a new emergency response facility. The Town of Hornbeak received additional funds from a Community Development Block Grant through the State of Tennessee and a grant from the Delta Regional Authority.

"On behalf of Rural Development, we appreciate the hardworking rescue teams from rural areas and know the importance of having up-to-date equipment and state of the art facilities," Howard said. "These men and women do an excellent job saving lives and we know the organization and surrounding communities will benefit from the project."

Receiving these funds will allow the Town of Hornbeak to construct a 7,730 square foot emergency response facility. The facility will house a training room to be utilized by staff for group meetings and training sessions as well as, a new equipment room to store emergency equipment in a manner which will provide easier access for quicker response times. The new site layout will increase parking for patrons and staff and a new emergency communications room that will be used to dispatch personnel to the emergency areas quickly and efficiently.

Others participating in the event include Obion County Mayor Benny McGuire, Obion County Chamber of Commerce President Greg Dozier, Hornbeak Fire Chief Bob Reavis and USDA Rural Development Specialist Brandon Orr.

USDA Rural Development is moving investments to rural America with housing, business and infrastructure loans and grants to create jobs and strengthen rural economies with an emphasis to assist areas of persistent poverty. Since 2009, the agency has assisted more than 1.5 million Tennessee families and businesses in 233 communities in all 95 counties of Tennessee, investing more than $7.6 billion through affordable loans, loan guarantees, and grants.
