Ever-changing technology gave students at both Union City High and UC Middle School a glimpse into what their futures could look like.
Be Pro Be Proud Tennessee brought its interactive workforce development initiative to campus recently, showcasing the availability of high-demand technical careers and skilled trades.
A custom semi-truck arrived early in the week, equipped with virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) simulators that gave students hands-on experience with tools, machinery, commercial trucks, tractors, and bucket lines.
Among the many industries covered were construction, manufacturing, transportation, and utilities – including HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work.
The program’s specific design is to enlighten and educate students on post-graduate career paths outside of college and connect local talent directly with regional employers and training programs.
BPBP says its goal is to bring a new generation of pride, progress, and professionals to America's skilled workforce and to revitalize the skilled workforce by changing negative perceptions of technical jobs among students and parents.
UCHS Career Counselor Lisa Carson and UCMS Career Explorations teacher Rhonda Clendenin played significant roles in the showcase.
Eleven high school students and 10 more from the middle school served as ‘Ambassadors’ for the program, receiving advanced training from BPBP representatives before guiding their classmates through the many exhibits available.
High School Ambassadors included: Estela Chavez-Pastor, Bradon Chism, Joseph Conner, Tayvin Dean, La’riyah Gordon, Cole Gurley, Brandt Huffstutter, Adrian McKinnie, Brylee Robinson, Bruce Smith, and Morgan Speed.
