WHAT IS A CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AMBASSADOR?
As a Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, you are a front line representative for the Obion County Chamber of Commerce at public and Chamber sponsored events/activities. You will assist in the promotion, volunteer support and development of various Chamber sponsored events. As an Ambassador, your dedication, time and efforts are appreciated and highly valued by the Board of Directors, Chamber Staff and Membership during your one year term. You ARE the backbone of the Obion County Chamber of Commerce.
Obion County announced today its participation in the ACT Work Ready Communities initiative, a workforce system designed to assist sites and regions in developing their workforce pipeline to provide skilled workers for employers. Held at the Humboldt Medical Center, the Kick-off Celebration recognized the efforts of the Obion County Work Ready committee and 10 other counties in northwest Tennessee as the first counties in Tennessee to launch the program.

The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development announced today it has launched the Select Tennessee Property Evaluation Program (PEP). The goal of this new tool is to improve the inventory of industrial sites and buildings in Tennessee by evaluating potential properties and advising counties on where investment may be most beneficial and what steps may be needed to address issues.
On June 3rd the Obion County JEDC convened education and workforce officials, as well as human resources professionals, to discuss our regional education efforts and our existing/future workforce. The Tennessee Career Center here in Union City sponsored breakfast and graciously hosted the meeting. This time together was viewed as a round table opportunity to discuss current programs and potential ideas for strengthening our area's workforce.

Custom Laboratory Building Company to Invest $6.2Million, Create 200 New Jobs
NASHVILLE-Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd along with Institutional Casework Inc. (ICI) officials announced the company will expand its current operations in Tennessee, opening a new manufacturing facility in Union City. ICI is expanding due to market demand and will invest $6.2 million in this new facility, creating 200 new jobs in Obion County.
Obion County was once again certified as a ThreeStar Community at the Governor's Conference for Economic and Community Development. UNION CITY, Tenn - NBC's Al Roker highlighted one of Tennessee's most dynamic attractions during a live TODAY Show broadcast this morning from Discovery Park of America in Union City, Tenn. during "Rokerthon 2, Taking America By Storm."
The famous weatherman is making history by broadcasting weather from 50 states in one week in an attempt for The Guinness World Records. Roker is traveling by planes, trains and automobiles and will end his tour live Nov. 13 on Rockefeller Plaza.
An announcement released nationally by the independent hospital watchdog The Leapfrog Group, shows key shifts among many hospitals on the A, B, C, D and F grades rating them on errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City earned an A in this elite national ratings program, recognizing its strong commitment to patient safety. The Hospital Safety Score is the gold standard rating for patient safety, compiled under the guidance of the nation's leading patient safety experts and administered by The Leapfrog Group, a national, independent nonprofit. The first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, the Hospital Safety Score is free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.
Hamilton-Ryker was recently awarded "Regional Partner of the Year" by Goodwill Career Solutions. Welding, forklift operation, clerical, human resources, general assembly-you name it. In the six years since Hamilton-Ryker first began putting Goodwill Career Solutions clients to work across West Tennessee, there are few job descriptions they haven't filled. They have been the number one employer partner with Goodwill's Union City Career Solutions Center for three years and running. Those efforts have expanded into Madison County and across West Tennessee, making them the eighth highest employer in terms of client placements across the 48 counties Goodwill serves. Already this year, Hamilton-Ryker has placed 164 Goodwill clients into jobs in West Tennessee. Hamilton-Ryker Regional Manager Ronnie Cook says "The company stays in near contact with Goodwill Career Counselors." Cook calls the partnership with Goodwill an important asset for Hamilton-Ryker's offices in Union City, Martin, Milan, McKenzie, Paris, Covington and Jackson.
The Union City J'Cettes are putting together a new cookbook and are asking all current and former J'Cettes members to submit recipes. Discussing plans for the project are current J'Cettes (from left, from row) Stacey Haynes, Katie Keathley, Stephanie Virgin, (back) Lindsay Frilling and Keisha Hooper, who perused a cookbook published by the organization in the past. The 2016 cookbook will be entitled "Hey There Good Cookin'" and will include a taste of history about the Union City J'Cettes, as well as recipes in the categories of appetizers and beverages, soups and salads, main dishes, bread and rolls, and desserts. Current and past members of the organization are asked to submit recipes by December 18th by emailing them to
