Susan Ewing, Greg Fuson, and Steve Chandler with Chandlerthinks were in Obion County on Thursday and Friday to learn more about the potential for the county as a destination for tourists.
Chandlerthinks, based out of Franklin, Tenn., is an organization that helps cities, communities, and regions find direction and develop strategic plans for the promotion of their areas with the objective of increasing revenue from tourism. They were selected by the recently appointed Obion County, Tenn. Tourism Development Committee to lead this initiative.
The funds for this study and the strategic plan that will follow are available because of a hotel/motel tax paid by those staying in Obion County hotels, bed and breakfasts, and vacation lodging facilities of all kinds.
While in town, the representatives from Chandlerthinks toured the area and visited attractions, restaurants, and retail establishments. Additionally, they led one-on-one interviews and focus groups with Obion County hoteliers, vacation rental property owners, restaurateurs, and those working in tourism, business, and economic development.
